inSequins and sparkles really take center stage during the holidays and around New Years but I love them year round!
There’s something about the over-the-top sparkle and unapologetic prettiness which is lovely – especially when mixed with unexpected elements like menswear inspired blazers and leather jackets. I love the mix of feminine elements like sequins with fur or lace as well but you need to incorporate an unexpected edgy element (like leather pants, or torn boyfriend jeans) so you dont look like an old Czarina in exile! Here are some of my favourite looks:
Here’s a look combining fur and sequins – it works because of the modern bright lip and the booties toughen it up a bit:
And here is how I would wear it:
CALYPSO ST BARTH long t shirt, $299
Bird by Juicy Couture leather jacket, $125
The Row leather legging, €1.698
Zara sandal heels, $90
How do YOU wear sequins?

inThere are a few fashion and style blogs that I follow religiously. Additions to this list are few and far between (or I’d be stuck to the laptop all day!) but recently I came across Mark D. Sikes’ blog and I couldn’t help but add it to the list! I love how he focuses on one person and the collection of photos he posts really captures that person’s style and spirit! Also, a lot of the photos he posts are uncommon so it’s not the same old stuff.
One of his recent posts was about the ultimate style icon Jackie O. I’ve been a fan of her style for many years now (I started out as many of you did I’m sure – Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O!). It’s interesting to see her style evolve over the years, from young bride to the Camelot years to the Onassis era and ultimately her years as a book editor in New York. She was only the First lady for 3 years (1960-63) and married to Onassis for 7 years (1968-75) but that is the period of her life that we see most pictures of. She was a book editor for 19 years(!) but many people don’t even know that about her! I guess it does make sense because she was at the prime of her physical beauty and glamour during the White House and Onassis years, and since she never really enjoyed the publicity (to put it mildly – she got a restraining order against photographer Ron Galella!) she retreated into her own private world after Onassis died.
Here are a few of my favourite photos of Jackie, and to see more you can check out Mark’s post.

Jackie with Ari – this is the quintessential “Jackie O look” with the large sunglasses and the big blown out hair
Another classic Jackie look!
Who are some of your favorite style icons?

inUnless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past few months you know that velvet slippers are the new ballet flats. I’m all for trends that combine comfort with style, and a pair of these babies paired with skinny jeans, a tee and an oversize blazer look fantastic!
This pair by Del Toro is taking the fashion bloggers by storm but if you, like me, don’t want to part with $325 for a trend, these ASOS beauties might be more up your alley!

Have you ever noticed how you wear 20% of what you own 80% of the time? Whenever I’m shopping I style the items in my head in many different ways but when its time to get dressed I rely on old standbys. No more. My style resolution in 2012 is to wear more of what I already own. One way to do this is to style some outfits on Polyvore and rely on those when lacking inspiration to get dressed! A few of the items I have in my closet that I have yet to wear are:
1. H&M Rosette Clutch
Isn’t it pretty? I recently remembered I had this when I saw this post!
Actually I just got these a few weeks ago and haven’t had the right occasion to wear them just yet – but they’re fabulous and go with everything! I haven’t had any closed toe black shoes in a while – these have a nice almond toe (seen here), and next on my list is a pointy toe studded pump – like the Louboutin spiked Pigalle… *dreamy smile*
Capes are pretty versatile – they can be worn for a more casual look with skinny jeans and boots, or more dressed up with some accessories as seen here.
4. Banana Republic Deco Earrings
These earrings are pretty fab (and heavy!). I’m not much of an earring person so I’ve only worn them once so far!
5. Oasis Fan Embellished Dress
I bought this dress from London at the Oasis store – it was love at first sight! I love the 20s feel and the embellishment is even more beautiful in real life. I haven’t worn it yet – but that will be rectified soon!
So that’s my first style resolution of the year! Are there items in your closet you haven’t worn but cant bear to part with? 2012 is the year to start wearing what you own!
xoxo
